Niagara Motors’ Dick Family Donates $50,000 to OneFoundation

December 02, 2016

Dave Dick, Owner and Dealer Principal of Niagara Motors, paid forward the success the Dick family has enjoyed by making a gift of $50,000 in memory of Dave and Ella Dick to OneFoundation for Niagara Health System today.

The $50,000 will be directed towards the purchase of a Stainer for the Laboratory at Niagara Health’s St. Catharines Site. The cheque was presented at Niagara Motors, which is celebrating 70 years in business, to OneFoundation’s Board of Directors Chair, Joe Maggiolo, Mary Sergenese of OneFoundation and Dr. Janice Giesbrecht, Medical Director of Walker Family Cancer Centre.

“This very generous gift today is greatly appreciated,” says Maggiolo. “We are thrilled that the Dick Family and Niagara Motors are partnering with OneFoundation and Niagara Health to help build a healthier Niagara.”

This donation, along with funds from other OneFoundation fundraisers, will help purchase a special Stainer that will be used to stain tissue samples used by pathologists at Niagara Health to inform diagnosis of Prostate Cancer, Lung Cancer and other cancers. The stainer offers a larger menu of specialized stains than existing equipment, which will broaden Niagara Health’s ability to refine the information that supports accurate diagnoses, and ultimately, patient care.

The stainer simplifies and speeds-up the wait-times for assessment and treatment at the Walker Family Cancer Centre, saving precious time and considerable worry for patients and their families. Another $25,000 still needs to be raised for this urgently needed piece of equipment, so the Dick Family is reaching out to the community for their support in this initiative.

UPDATE: The Dick Family's Challenge to the community was a huge success and an additional $28,675 was raised for the special Stainer! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this vital piece of equipment!
