Women, Babies and Children
Women & Babies Unit
Since the opening of the Niagara Health System St. Catharines Site in March 2013, women giving birth in Niagara deliver their babies at the new, state-of-the-art Women and Babies Unit.
Here, mothers and babies are cared for by a team of experts in maternity, newborn and women’s health. Centralizing these regional services at the new St. Catharines Site allows us to make the best use of technology, equipment and human resources – all to optimize care and enhance the patient experience.
The ultra-modern, spacious birthing suites and quality care delivered within are a model for hospitals across the province. These leading-edge facilities are the product of consultation with world experts and further elevate services by helping to attract leading specialists.
Adjacent to the Women’s and Babies’ area, the Children’s Unit provides a full range of Pediatric Services for children up to age 18. Specially designed for younger patients and their families, the unit features a day surgery area, family apartment/over-night suite, family lounges, a play room…all decorated with cheerful colours and vibrant artwork.
Recognizing that having familiar faces nearby is especially important to the well-being of little ones, the Unit has been designed to encourage family-centred support – an approach embraced by the Pediatrics care team. Thanks to this new facility made possible through the philanthropy of many community donors, Niagara’s parents and children can be assured they will receive superb care right here in Niagara.
Emergency Department pediatric care continues to be provided at our Greater Niagara General and Welland Sites.
